Turn breakthrough science into market traction

You built something technically difficult. Now you need customers, investors, partners, or clinicians to understand why it matters.

I help early-stage scientific founders, and select science-led practices, turn complex technology into clear positioning, compelling messaging, and a marketing system that actually gets built.

MIT-trained engineer 15+ years in marketing Hands-on marketing operator Senior judgment paired with the execution to make it real.

Your science is complicated. Your market story shouldn’t be.

You’ve spent years solving the hard problem: the technology, the trials, the prototype, the science, the investors.

But somewhere between what it does and why anyone should care, things get fuzzy.

MAYBE

  • Your website explains the technology but doesn’t make the value obvious.
  • Investors understand the science but not the commercial opportunity.
  • Every founder, salesperson, and advisor describes the product differently.
  • Your messaging sounds technically accurate but doesn’t create urgency.
  • You’ve built the marketing yourself, or with AI, and you’re not sure what’s actually working.

You know you need marketing, but you’re not ready for a full-time marketing leader. That’s where I come in.

What I actually do

Clarify

Figure out what matters before you spend more on marketing. I dig into your technology, market, customers, competitors, existing materials, and business goals to identify what’s unclear, what’s missing, and what’s getting in the way.

Build

Turn that clarity into a market-ready story: positioning, messaging, website, content, sales materials, launch strategy, go-to-market. I write the first version, make the decisions with you, and build the pieces alongside you.

Operate

Make marketing something your company can actually run: campaigns, content, marketing automation, lead management, reporting, and the processes your team needs to keep going.

I don’t hand you a 60-page strategy deck and wish you luck. The goal isn’t to make you dependent on me — it’s to make marketing less founder-dependent.

Avani Jain, fractional marketing leader and MIT-trained engineer

The science is the advantage. It rarely explains itself.

That’s the gap I work in. I’m Avani Jain, an MIT-trained engineer and marketing leader with 15+ years across Gartner, Sartorius, and Thermo Fisher, where I led global teams and multi-million-dollar budgets. I’ve spent just as much time at the early end: defining positioning, customers, and go-to-market before any of it exists.

Both halves are necessary. One gets me close enough to the technology to understand it. The other keeps me far enough back to see what the market needs to hear.

I can go deep enough to understand the technology and step back far enough to see what the market actually needs to hear.

Strategy is easy to buy. Judgment is harder to find.

AI has made content and execution dramatically cheaper. That’s a good thing. But it also means producing more marketing isn’t the problem anymore.

Knowing what to say, who to say it to, what to lead with, and what not to say: that’s the hard part.

AI can draft your website. It can’t reliably determine whether your positioning is differentiated. It can summarize your technology. It can’t decide which part of the science will change a buyer’s behavior.

I use AI where it makes sense. You hire me for the judgment.

Not a freelancer. Not a strategy deck. Not a generic fractional CMO.

You don’t need another marketing plan sitting in a folder, and you don’t necessarily need a $250K executive hire.

You need someone who can understand the business, make the strategic decisions, write the first draft, build the system, and stay close enough to the work to know whether it’s actually working.

That’s the Think Bold difference: senior-level thinking, hands-on execution, built for the stage you’re actually in.

Three ways in, depending on what’s actually broken

You don’t need to know exactly which one you need before we talk. That’s part of what the first conversation is for.

The questions founders actually ask

Sometimes. But that’s not really the point. I work as an embedded marketing partner when that’s the right model, but I don’t come in simply to attend leadership meetings and delegate work. I’m deliberately hands-on: I help make the strategic decisions and do the work required to turn those decisions into something real.

My sweet spot is early-stage companies, from pre-seed through early commercial growth, where the science or technology is strong but the marketing function is still being built. You don’t need a big marketing team — that’s usually when I’m most useful.

Yes, but you don’t need to simplify it for me. My engineering background means I can engage with complex products and ask the questions needed to understand what actually matters commercially.

Execute. Depending on the engagement, I may write the website, develop the messaging, build the campaign, create the marketing workflow, or work directly with your team. You won’t get a strategy deck and a “good luck.”

That’s completely fine, and increasingly common. I’ll start with what you already have. The question isn’t whether AI was involved — it’s whether the resulting marketing is strategically right.

Clarity Session: $150–$250. Marketing Rescue & Build: $8,000–$20,000. Embedded Marketing Partner: $6,000–$15,000/month. I’ll recommend the smallest engagement that makes sense for the problem you’re trying to solve.
